Robert Ochiltree Scott was born in Ballarat and was a Mechanic by trade when he enlisted in the Australian Flying Corps, 3rd Special Draft on 13 February 1918 at the age of 19 before embarking from Melbourne on the Nestor. He disembarked at Liverpool on April 20th and served through the final six months of the war as an Air Mechanic 2nd Class. After the war he was granted six months leave without pay to travel home at his own expense. He travelled home on the Aki Maru, reaching Melbourne on December 13th 1919.
