Edward Matthew Daw (SN 57428) born at Bungaree, was a 21 year old butcher when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 15th 1918. With the 4th General Service Reinforcements, on August 17th he embarked aboard the Port Sydney and reached Suez on September 19th to serve out the final months of the war. A week after the Armistice was signed he was transferred to the 4th Light Horse Regiment. In early 1919 he was hospitalised with measles before returning home on the Essex. He reached Melbourne on July 25th 1919 and was discharged on August 8th.
