Biography

Arnold Charles O'Neill was born in Ballarat and was a Moulder by trade when he enlisted in the 2nd General Service Reinforcements (Egypt) (Victoria) on 5 March 1918 at the age of 18. He had already served for 4 years in Senior Cadets, Citizen Forces. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 10 June 1918. He joined the 15th Light Horse Regiment on October 28th, just two weeks before the war ended. In early 1919, illness delayed his return to Australia, but he eventually sailed on the Dongola and reached Melbourne on August 24th 1919.
