Biography

Leslie Gordon Macdonald (SN 69068) was born in Melbourne where he enlisted as a 21 year old clerk on February19th 1918. He embarked from Sydney aboard the Carpentaria on November 7th , just four days before the signing of the armistice. He had just reached New Zealand when those on board were recalled, and returned on the Riverina, disembarking back in Melbourne on November 28th . He was discharged on Christmas Eve 1918, credited with 309 days of service with 21 days as overseas service.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Leslie G. McDonald.
