John Richard Edmonds (SN 21741/Chaplain) was born in Horsham and was a 35 year old clergyman when he enlisted in Geelong on April 29th 1918. Assigned to the Medical Corps he embarked from Adelaide aboard the Gaika on August 6th and sailed to London. He reached France for duty at the 2nd Australian General Hospital just two days before the Armistice was signed. In March 1919 he was appointed as a Chaplain Class 4. He returned home on the Ypiranga, disembarked on January 4th 1920 and his appointment was terminated on January 27th.
