Biography

Thomas Henry Rowe (SN 483) was born in Ballarat and attended the Redan State School. At the time of his enlistment in the 23rd Infantry Battalion on February 17th 1915, he was a 22 year old labourer. He embarked from Melbourne on May 10th on board the Euripides and reached Gallipoli at the end of August. After the Gallipoli evacuation he spent some weeks in Egypt before moving to France in March 1916. On October 4th 1917 he was killed in action at Broodseinde. He has no known grave and his name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

His brother Leslie also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
