Biography

Harold Robert George Marshall (SN 55722) first tried to enlist in March 1918 but was unable to obtain parental consent. As an 18 year old farmer he did enlist on May 9th 1918. He embarked with the 7th General Service Recruits aboard the Marathon on July 23rd. On arrival in London he was allotted to the 7th Infantry Battalion then to the 11th Field Artillery Brigade as a gunner. He was deployed to France for a period of five weeks from late July. At war’s end he returned to Australia aboard the Ulysses and was discharged on October 18th 1919.
