Biography

Donald Stewart Ross was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Bank Clerk when he enlisted in the 15th General (Victorian) Reinforcements on 1 April 1918 at the age of 20. His unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A36 Boonah on 22 October 1918. However, the armistice was signed a month later on 11 November, essentially bringing the war to an end. According to his digitised records he completed his tour of duty without any major incident, illness or injury, returning home to Australia aboard the Boonah on 17 January 1919.
