Clifford Longhurst (SN 55179) born in Ballarat , was a 19 year old clerk when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 9th1918. With the 5th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked from Sydney aboard the Orontes on June 5th. On arrival in England, he was posted as a reinforcement for the 8th Infantry Battalion but was troubled by influenza. After the signing of the Armistice, he was deployed to France with the 1st Australian Field Bakery. He returned to Australia aboard the Suevic disembarked at Melbourne on September 11th 1919 and was discharged on September 25th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number V360926.
