Biography

Stanley Lowe Steele Wareham was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and a Bioscope Operator when he enlisted with the 2nd General (Victorian) Reinforcements on 4 February 1918 at the age of 19. Huis unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 1 May 1918. According to his records, aside from an instance of being absent without leave from Midnight to 9 PM on 9 October 1918, for which he was awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay, he completed his service without major incident, illness or injury, receiving his discharge on 22 August 1919.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Stanley L. Steele-Wareham.
