David John Wilson Allen (SN 60874) born at Ballarat, was a 29 year old farmer when he enlisted in Melbourne on March 8th 1918. With the 9th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked aboard the Barambah on August 31st and sailed to London. On arrival he was allotted to the 5th Infantry Battalion at the same time the Armistice was signed. In early 1919 he was sent to France to work with the Graves Registration Unit until illness saw him hospitalised. He returned to Australia aboard the Aeneas, disembarked at Melbourne on January 9th 1920 and was discharged on February 1st.
