Herbert Ernest Wearne (SN 3160) born at Linton, was a 32 year old shunter, the father of three children, when he enlisted at Ballarat on April 10th 1918. He embarked aboard the Barambah on August 31st and sailed to England. The war had ended by the time he crossed to France attached to the 3rd Light Rail Field Company. While in France he worked for a time with the AIF Graves Detachment. He returned home aboard the Devon, disembarked at Melbourne on November 27th 1919 and was discharged on December 12th.
