Biography

Clarence Sydney Pernonie (SN 1794) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on January 4th 1915. 20 years old, single and a labourer, he was drafted to the 8th Infantry Battalion and embarked from Melbourne in April on board the Wiltshire. He reached Gallipoli a couple of months ahead of the August Offensive but was killed at Lone Pine on August 6th 1915. He has no known grave, but his name is on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, Turkey.
