George Henry Burridge (SN 55561) enlisted on April 20th 1918 under the surname of BEALE. He enlisted at Shepparton as a 21 year old labourer, but his family home was in Peake Street in Ballarat East. He disclosed his true surname early in his training at Broadmeadows, before embarking from Melbourne on the Marathon on July 23rd 1918. He reached England in late September 1918, but did not join the 7th Battalion in France until early 1919, after fighting had ceased. In March 1919 he transferred to the Pay Corps where he remained until he left England on the Plassyin September 1919. He died in March 1958 aged 75.
