Biography

Hector Norman Waight was born in Adelaide, SA, was single and a blacksmith residing in Ballarat, Victoria when he enlisted with the 6th General (Victorian) Reinforcements on 22 April 1918 at the age of 18. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A30 Borda on 17 July 1918. Four months later the armistice was signed, essentially ending all conflict in Europe. Pte Waight returned to Australia on 12 December 1918.
