Biography

Alun Idrisyn Jones (SN 55405) was born in Ballarat where he enlisted on April 24th 1918. At the time he was an 18 year old motor mechanic. On August 17th , with the 6th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked from Sydney on the Borda and reached London on September 27th. He was based with the 1st Training Battalion when hostilities ended but was then placed with the 1st Division Ammunition Column for duty in France for two months. He returned to Australia on the Suevic and was discharged on September 25th 1919. He also served, home duties, in World War 2 with Service Number V6943.

Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Alan I. Jones.
