Born in Creswick, Victoria, Henry Alexander McCarthy was a married 22 year old labourer at the time of his enlistment in Ballarat on the 24th of April 1918. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board SS Port Darwin on the 14th of September 1918.
Henry returned to Australia on the 13th of August 1919 and was discharged due to the termination of is enlistment period on the 28th of August 1918.
