Frank Wood (SN 55477) born at Minyip, was a 19 year old hairdresser when he enlisted at Ballarat on April 24th 1918 . He embarked aboard the Borda on July 17th and disembarked at London. He was assigned to the 6th Infantry Battalion, but the Armistice was signed before he could be deployed to France. He returned to Australia aboard the Somali, disembarked at Melbourne on February 8th 1919 and was discharged on February 23rd ‘medically unfit, asthma’. He also enlisted to serve during World War 2 with service number V146587.
His brother John also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
