Biography

David Andrew Louden (SN 56181) was born and educated in Ballarat, but he enlisted in Adelaide on April 30th 1918 as a single, 32 year old miner. He was allocated to the 43rd Infantry Battalion and embarked from Adelaide on board the Gaika in August. A month later, he 'failed to re-embark at Capetown' and eventually arrived in England on board the Willochra in early October. During training in the UK he was hospitalised with influenza but did not respond to treatment and died of broncho-pneumonia on November 8th 1918, just three days before the signing of the Armistice. He is buried in St George's Churchyard Cemetery, Forvant, Wiltshire.
