Alexander Duncan Balfour (SN 69012) born in Ballarat, was an 18 year old railway employee when he enlisted at Stockton NSW on May 3rd 1918. With the 16th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked aboard the Carpentaria on November 7th, just four days before the war ended. The Carpentaria was recalled and he was discharged before Christmas. He re-enlisted in the permanent army in 1919 and served for many more years, including World War 2 with service number VX130403.
