Biography

Howard Gordon Bennett (SN 3531) born in Ballarat, was an18 year old fitter and turner when he enlisted in Ballarat on May 27th 1918. He embarked aboard the Zealandic on October 5th. The war ended around the time he reached England where he was assigned to the 2nd Squadron Australian Flying Corps as a 2nd Class Air Mechanic. He returned to Australia aboard the Kaiser-i-Hind, disembarked at Melbourne on June 16th 1919 and was discharged two weeks later. He served again with distinction in WW2, attaining the rank of Group-Captain and receiving an M.B.E.
