James O'Connor was born in Ballarat and was working as a motor mechanic when he enlisted from Ballarat on 10th May 1918. He was 24 years old and single. He was posted to the 7th Infantry Battalion, with Regimental No. 60740. On 8th February 1919 he died on influenza in the 55th Casualty Clearing Station, and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery, Belgium.
