Biography

Walter Skelton Cameron (SN 61839) like his brother Norman, needed the consent of his parents John and Frances when he enlisted as an 18 year old on May 6th 1918. He trained at Broadmeadows before leaving Australia on the Zealandic just five weeks before the war was to end. He reached England on December 5th 1918, three weeks after hostilities had ceased. Nevertheless he spent much of 1919 engaged in the immediate post-war operational duties, predominantly with the Australian Medical Corps, 5th Field Ambulance. He departed from England in October on the Devon and reached Melbourne on November 27th 1919. He died in November 1967 at the age of 68.

His brother Norman also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
