Biography

William D’Arcy (SN 59962) born in Ballarat, was a 24 year old clerk when he enlisted in Sydney on May 15th 1918. With the 15th General Service Reinforcements, he embarked aboard the Gaika on July 30th and sailed to England. He was posted as a reinforcement for the 56th Infantry Battalion but with the signing of the Armistice, he did not make it to the battlefields. He returned to Australia aboard the Anchises, disembarked at Sydney on October 8th 1919 and was discharged on November 11th. He also enlisted to serve during WW2 with service number VX19259.

His brother Joseph also served in the AIF and is honoured with a tree in the Avenue.
