Thomas James Dinsdale was born in Ballarat and enlisted in the Australian Army Service Corps Details on 14 November 1917 at the age of 31. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A14 Euripides on 1 May 1918. He had served for several years with the Home Guard, from which he was discharged when he enlisted in the AIF. He reached England in early July 1918 and served with the Australian Service Corps until his return to Australia aboard the Karoa in May 1919 and was later discharged (medically unfit: debility).
