Biography

Stanley Murray Ebbles (SN 6014) born at Carisbrook, was a 23 year old labourer when he enlisted in Ballarat on April 26th 1916. On July 28th he embarked aboard the Themistocles and by October he was serving with the 60th Infantry Battalion in France. In his early days in France, he was charged with being in a café during prohibited hours and had to forfeit five days pay. On September 26th 1917 he suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder. By April 1918 he was having lung problems and was evacuated to hospital in England where it was decided he should return to Australia. He disembarked from the Medic in Melbourne on October 11th 1918 and was discharged medically unfit soon after.
