Biography

Born in Bungaree, Victoria and a Bank Clerk (Bank of Australasia) by occupation, Sidney Willerton Blight was 22 years and single when enlisted on the 29th of May 1918 in the Field Artillery Brigade, Reinforcement 35, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Gunner, Number 40171. His Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A30 'Borda' on the 17th of July 1918. Gunner on the 19th of June 1918. Detached to duty to Australian Army Ordinance Corps London from 2nd Australian Field Ambulance Brigade ex France on the 27th of January 1919. To be temporary Corporal on the 25th of February 1919; temporary Corporal to be temporary Sergeant on the 1st of April 1919; temporary Sergeant to be E.R. Sergeant on the 18th of June 1919. ER Sergeant returned to Australia per 'Nestor' ex England on the 1st of November 1919 and disembarked on the 15th of December 1919. Discharged from 3rd Military District with the Termination of period of Enlistment on the 7th of January 1920.
