William Henry Sherriff was born in Creswick, VIC and was an Operating Porter by trade when he enlisted in the July 1918 Reinforcements on 27 June 1918 at the age of 20. His unit embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A36 Boonah on 29 October 1918. The war ended three weeks later, the Boonah was recalled and he was discharged in January 1919.
