Robert Cecil Borradale was born in Creswick, VIC and was a Railway Employee by trade when he enlisted in the 2nd Battalion 39th Infantry on 26 July 1918 at the age of 19. His unit embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia, on board HMAT A36 Boonah from Adelaide on October 22nd 1918 just three weeks before the cessation of hostilities, but the Boonah was recalled and he disembarked on December 20th.
