Biography

William Henry Swingler was born in Invermay, Victoria, was single and a Motorman when he enlisted with the 17th General (Victorian) Reinforcements on 9 August 1918 at the age of 21. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A7 Medic on 2 November 1918. However, his troopship was recalled due to the signing of the armistice on 11 November 1918, and he returned to Australia. He was discharged on 20 January 1919.
