Biography

Walter Stanley Dent (SN 2852) was born in Flemington but was educated at the Macarthur Street State School in Ballarat. He was a single 27 year old decorator when he enlisted in Ballarat on September 4th 1918, joining the Australian Railway Company. He embarked from Melbourne a month later but became ill during the voyage from Australia to UK. He was hospitalised on the ship and then transferred to Brookwood Military Hospital on arrival in UK. The Armistice was signed while he was in hospital. He died there on February 22nd 1919 of pneumonia and is buried in the Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, UK.
