Biography

Percival Walter Powell (SN 6392/6450/Lt.) was a 26 year old accountant when he enlisted in Melbourne on October 30th 1916. Assigned to the 21st Infantry Battalion, he embarked aboard the Hororata on November 23rdand sailed to England. While in England he was transferred to the 37th Battalion then moved to France in August 1917. In late 1918 he was recalled to England to undertake officer training and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant around the time the war ended. He was further promoted to lieutenant before he returned to Australia aboard the Borda, disembarked at Melbourne on June 27th 1919 and was discharged on August 4th.
