Born in Ballarat, Frank Gladstone Menzies was a single 24 year old civil servant at the time of his enlistment on the 17th of June 1915 in Seymour, Victoria. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A18 Wiltshire on the 7th of March 1916.
On the 17th of January 1916, Frank was promoted to Second Lieutenant. On the 17th of November 1916, he was promoted to Lieutenant.
In 1917, On the 7th of December, Frank was promoted to Captain.
He was wounded in action on the 22nd of March 1918, and was transferred to England on the 26th of March with gas poisoning. Frank rejoined his battalion on the 1st of June 1918.
He returned to Australia on the 31st of March 1919, and was discharged due to the termination of his enlistment period on the 22nd of May 1919.
