Biography

Charles George Binnie (SN 3238) born in Ballarat, was a 21 year old labourer when he enlisted in Brisbane on July 31st 1915. He embarked aboard the Seang Bee on November 29th and sailed via Egypt to France. Initially with the 15th Infantry Battalion he was transferred to the 47th Battalion with whom he was serving when he was reported missing in April 1917. It was subsequently confirmed that he had been captured at Reincourt and had become a prisoner of war at Limburg in Germany. At war’s end he was returned to England in June 1918 and was returned to Australia aboard the Ascanius. He disembarked at Melbourne on March 24th 1919 and was discharged on May 17th.
