Biography

William Albert Watkins (SN 1126) was born at Brighton but was a 22 year old farm labourer at Burrumbeet when he enlisted on January 6th 1915. On August 10th he embarked aboard the Persia and, attached to the 4th Light Horse Regiment, he saw action at Gallipoli from late October. After Gallipoli his unit served at various locations in the Middle East, and while he avoided battle wounds, he was troubled by illnesses including influenza and malaria. After the war he returned aboard the Dunluce Castle disembarking on August 26th 1919. He was discharged on January 25th 1920.
