Biography

Charles Henry Dennent Goddard (SN 1945) was born in Ballarat and attended the Dana Street State School. He enlisted on January 20th, 1915 when he was a 19 year old coach painter. He joined the 14th Infantry Battalion and embarked for Gallipoli in mid April aboard the Hororata. He reached Gallipoli in August and served there for a short time before illness forced his evacuation. He was promoted Corporal during his service and served for a time with the Postal Service in England. He was killed in action at Mericourt on the August 8th 1918, and is buried in Heath Cemetery, Harbonnieres, France. He was 22 years of age.
