Biography

WiII Ware was born in Ballarat, Victoria, was single and an Electroplater when he enlisted with the Field Ambulance 10 on 12 July 1915 at the age of 21. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A54 Runic on 20 June 1916. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 1 May 1917 whilst serving in France, but later reverted to his previous rank per his own request. Aside from a few minor issues of being found absent without leave, resulting in the forfeiture of 1-2 days' pay, it appears he completed his service without major incident, illness or injury, returning home to Australia per the Zealandia on 11 may 1919 as part of the nursing staff.
