Wilfred Jasper Coghlan was born in Ballarat and was a Labourer by trade when he enlisted in the Supply Column 3, Army Service Corps 26 on 3 March 1916 at the age of 28. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A19 Afric on 5 June 1916 and disembarked at Southampton on July 2nd. He was moved across to France in late November and appeared to have served through the remainder of the war without major incident, aside from his transfer to the 3rd Division Motor Transport Company in March 1918. While no details are provided, his service record reveals that after the war he returned to Australia, via America, at his own expense, disembarking from the Ormonde at Melbourne on August 2nd 1919.
