Biography

Vere Aubrey Reed was born in Daylesford, VIC, was single and working as a Labourer when he enlisted in the 7th Battalion, 23rd Reinforcement on 23 October 1916 at the age of 26. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A20 Hororata on 23 November 1916 and disembarking at Plymouth on 29 January 1917. His record shows multiple admissions to hospital for illness throughout 1917. He was wounded in action on 10 August 1918, receiving slight gas poisoning and a gunshot wound to the elbow. He returned home from England aboard the Plassy and received a medical discharge on 20 April 1919.
