Eric Giles was a single, 19 year old Farrier at the time of his enlistment on the 19th of July 1915. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 27th of October 1915.
On July 2nd 1916, he was wounded in action with shrapnel wounds to his lower jaw. Eric rejoined his Battalion on the 25th of December 1916.
He was wounded in action on a second occasion on the 20th of May 1918 with a gunshot wound to his chest. Eric returned to Australia on the 11th of October 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit on the 26th of October 1918.
