Biography

Harry Edwin Catt (SN 596) was born at Normanton, North Queensland, and educated there and at the Dana Street State School in Ballarat. By the time he enlisted in Brisbane as a 22-year-old clerk, on March 9th 1915, his parents had moved to Papua New Guinea. He embarked from Brisbane aboard the Aeneas on June 29th, reaching Gallipoli in early September to serve with the 25th Battalion. After Gallipoli, he spent couple of months in Egypt before he moved on to France in March 1916. In June he transferred to the 1st Anzac Entrenching Battalion but on July 27th, near Pozieres, he received a gunshot wound to the head and was evacuated to hospital. He died of his wounds on August 6th 1916, aged 23. He was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery and is remembered on the honour board of the Dana Street State School.
