Born in Ballarat, Victoria and a clerk by trade, George Henderson Barker was 23 years and single when enlisted on the 21st of July 1915 in the 21st Battalion, 9th Reinforcement, Australian Imperial Force, with the rank of Private, Number 3764. His Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A69 'Warilda' on the 8th of February 1916. His War service was at the Western Front. On the 27th of November 1916 appointed Lance Corporal and on the 18th of January 1917 admitted to Edmonton Mil Hospital Pneumonia and embarked on H.S. 'Carisbrook Castle' at Havre for England Bronchitis Pneumonia. On the 15th of December 1917 promoted E.R. Corporal (Extra Regimental Corporal) and appointed Acting Sergeant in London. And was listed as returned to Australia on the 8th of April 1919. Retired Tras-os-Montes, Portugal on the 22nd of May 1919 on termination of period of enlistment and discharged on the 7th of July1919 3rd Military District. Tree No. 3781
