Harold Leslie Smith (SN 14867) born at Ballarat, was a 20 year old dairyman when he enlisted in Ballarat on November 3rd 1915. He trained with the Medical Corps before embarking from Brisbane on September 19th 1916 aboard the Seang Choon. From April 1917 he served on the Western Front with the 8th then 14th Field Ambulance and managed to avoid serious illness or injury. He returned to Australia aboard the Themistocles, disembarked on August 8th 1919 and was discharged on September 22nd.
