Biography

William Albert Berry Dickman [SULLIVAN] (SN 7082), born in Ballarat, enlisted at Cootamundra N.S.W. in July 1916 under the name Sullivan. It seems his mother’s name had changed from Dickman to Sullivan some time prior to his enlistment. At the time of his enlistment, he was a 24 year old plasterer. In November 1916 he left Australia to serve with the 2nd Infantry Battalion and reached France in May 1917. He was killed in action near Passchendaele, Belgium, on 7th November 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated as Sullivan on the Menin Gate Memorial Ypres, Belgium and as Dickman on the Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour.
