John Charles Alfred Findlow (SN 5375) born at Ecklin near Warrnambool, was a 21 year old farmer when he enlisted in Ballarat on February 14th 1916. He embarked aboard the Euripides on April 4th and by June he was with the 14th Infantry Battalion in France. In August he suffered a severe shell wound to his abdomen which damaged his stomach and liver and he was evacuated to hospital in England. He was then returned to Australia on the Wiltshire, disembarked at Melbourne on December 31st 1916 and was discharged ‘medically unfit, wounded’ on January 31st 1917.
