John Fittis Beacham (SN 37531) was born at Allendale near Creswick but was a 23 year old brewer living in Sturt Street in Ballarat when he enlisted on October 9th 1916. He trained with the Field Artillery at Maribyrnong before departing from Melbourne on the Port Sydney on November 9th 1917. He reached England in early January 1918 and later joined the 10th Field Artillery Brigade in France. He came through the period of hostility unscathed, but after the Armistice he was hospitalised in England suffering from inflammation of his right elbow. In April 1919 he left England on the Shropshire, disembarking at Melbourne on May 16th. He died in November 1960 at the age of 67.
