Joseph Edwards (SN 1385) born at Dunolly, was a 24 year old labourer when he enlisted in Melbourne on August 24th 1914. Assigned to the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade he embarked aboard the Southern on October 20th. He served at Gallipoli until illness, enteric, forced his evacuation to Netley Hospital in England. He rejoined his unit in France in June 1916. After a period of leave in England in August 1917 he spent 50 days at Bulford Hospital. As the war entered its final months he was granted ‘1914 leave’ and returned to Australia on the Port Sydney and was discharged on January 31st 1919.
