Born in Ballarat, Ernest Kerr Halliday was a married 31 year old farrier at the time of his enlistment in Geelong on the 19th of February 1917. His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A17 Port Lincoln on the 22nd of June 1917.
Ernest returned to Australia on the 17th of August 1918, and was discharged as medically unfit on the 8th of October 1918 after suffering with asthma.
