Leslie McConchie (SN V75633) was born in Melbourne but enlisted in Ballarat on April 22nd 1918. He was an 18 year old fitter and turner at that time. He was stationed with the Australian Flying Corps at Laverton for the final months of the war as an Air Mechanic but was discharged on Christmas Eve 1918 due to the demobilisation of the Australian Imperial Forces on the 24th of December 1918.
Lucas’s Staffs Appreciation of Brave Men, the original Avenue register, records his name as Les S. McConchi.
