Leslie McConchie enlisted in Ballarat, Victoria at the age of 18 on the 26th of April 1918. He had been born in Armadale, Victoria, was single and was employed as a Turner. He volunteered and was stationed with the Australian Flying Corps at Laverton. He was discharged due to the demobilisation of the Australian Infantry Forces on the 24th of December 1918.
