Biography

Edwin (Ted) Wesley Hauser (SN 864/Lt.) was born in Belmont, but his family home was at Mt. Pleasant and he was teaching at Rutherglen Higher Elementary School when he enlisted on February 4th 1915. He was 23 years of age and single. He was posted to the 21st Infantry Battalion and left Australia in May on board the Ulysses. He reached Gallipoli in late August and served there until the evacuation in December. He moved to France in late March 1916 and was wounded in July. While recovering he undertook further training in England and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in March 1917. On May 7th 1917 he was killed in action during the Second Battle of Bullecourt, has no known grave and his name is recorded on the Australian Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France.
